The Role 
We're looking for a highly capable, hands-on Senior Accountant to join our core Finance Team at Lifecheq on a 12-month contract basis, with potential for extension based on performance and business needs.

You will work across departments to drive policy development, process improvements, and create efficiencies within the finance function.

Core Responsibilities 
  • Preparing and presenting accurate and timely monthly management accounts 
  • Processing monthly tracking journals for business unit management accounts 
  • Reconciling and reviewing balance sheet accounts monthly 
  • Reviewing financial dimensions, projects, segments, and business unit classifications 
  • Compiling and submitting statutory returns (VAT, payroll tax) ensuring complete compliance 
  • Preparing quarterly investor financial reports 
  • Analysing actual vs budget variances and providing insights 
  • Working closely with the Senior Finance Manager on automation of finance processes (forecasting, costing center reporting, building and maintaining dynamic reports) 
  • Running the accounting for our Franchise partnerships and ensuring their accounting is complete and accurate and aligns to the appropriate accounting and tax standards 

Additional Responsibilities 
  • Reviewing bank reconciliations 
  • Maintaining, reviewing, and coordinating the fixed asset register 
  • Reconciling travel accounts and expense claims 
  • Managing domestic and foreign payments, including SARB applications 
  • Assisting with implementation of internal controls and approval processes 
  • Championing our approval process software and driving adoption 
  • Supporting the BEE compliance team with required financial information 
  • Working closely with the Junior Accountant and Senior Finance Manager 

Qualification and Experience Required 
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Management Accounting with solid academic results 
  • Professional qualification: CA(SA)or CGMA preferred 
  • Strong expertise in IFRS accounting and internal controls 
  • Working knowledge of South African tax regulations 

Highly Advantageous 
  • 1-3 years of post-article experience for qualified CAs 
  • Experience with modern ERP systems (e.g., Xero, Sage etc) 
  • Experience with approval workflow software and automation tools 
  • Experience in fintech, technology, or high-growth environments

Work Location & Arrangement 
This is a fully remote position based in South Africa. Candidates must be eligible to work in South Africa and be available during South African business hours.
